Under 2 Coalition

By Charlotte Owen-Burge | June 30, 2021

The Under2 Coalition is a global community of state and regional governments committed to ambitious climate action in line with the Paris Agreement.

It brings together over 220 governments representing more than 1.3 billion people and 43% of the global economy.

Our members commit to keeping global temperature rises to well below 2°C with efforts to reach 1.5°C. 29 states and regions in the Coalition have committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

The Climate Group is the Secretariat to the Under2 Coalition and works with governments to accelerate climate action through three workstreams:

  • Pathways
  • Policy action
  • Transparency
Mobilising global state and regional leadership on net zero ambition

Through its new Net Zero Futures project, in partnership with the Scottish Government and Bloomberg Philanthropies, the coalition is connecting Under2 Coalition members with existing net zero targets with states and regions interested in increasing their ambition.

To accelerate emissions reductions in line with the Paris Agreement and raise ambition in 2021, its aiming to empower state and regional governments to set net zero targets and join the UN’s Race to Zero campaign.
